Pierce Charges to Top 10 Finish at River Cities

GRAND FORKS, ND (April 29) – The 2016 season began for Austin Pierce Racing Friday night at Austin’s hometrack, River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks. Coming in as the two-time and defending RCS track champion, Pierce was looking to kick the new year off with a solid finish, but it would be no easy task with the stout field on hand.

Pierce rolled off inside the second row for heat race number one. With names like Dobmeier, Zomer, Nygaard, and Mack in the lineup, this heat looked more like the starting grid for a NOSA A-main. Nonetheless, Pierce dropped the hammer when the green flew and filed into the third position in the early going. After getting pinned on the bottom of the track on a lap two restart, Pierce was shuffled back to the sixth position, but recovered to come home in fifth at the time of the checkers.

That put the Opp Construction #2A way back in the 13th starting position for the 25-lap A-main. After a couple attempts to get the race under way following a spin and a six car pileup, Austin took the green flag in the eighth position. He would then ride in that spot until lap six where he picked up a position in consecutive laps, getting by the #0 of Nick Omdahl and the #09 of Tea, South Dakota’s Matt Juhl. Pierce set his sights on Lou Kennedy Jr., but wasn’t able to reel in and get by the veteran Sprint Car pilot.
With just six circuits remaining, the hard charging and former race leader, Thomas Kennedy got by Pierce, moving the 2014 NOSA champion back to the seventh position. Austin tried to mount one last charge on Kennedy in the closing laps, but had to settle for a seventh place finish at the line.

Pierce will be back at it next Friday night at River Cities Speedway with the NOSA Outlaw Sprints in his Lithia Ford Lincoln of Grand Forks/ EMi Chassis!
