Mell Builds Momentum After Solid Night at Badlands

BRANDON, SD (May 31) – The Powerhouse Bar & Grill #1AJ team made the trip down to Badlands Motor Speedway for the 305 Sprint Car season opener last Saturday night. After ending the 2015 season second in the 305 point standings, hopes were high entering the event to get 2016 started on the right track.

The night looked promising early on as Trevor drew the front row for heat race number two. At the conclusion of the eight lap preliminary race, Mell brought the Performance Auto machine home in second, which lined him up on the outside of row three for the main event.

The 15-lap feature didn’t quite go as planned for Mell as the setup on his Wolfweld Chassis didn’t agree with the racing surface, resulting in an 11th place finish.

Despite the rough start to the season at the high-banked 3/8th mile oval, Mell was still optimistic at the end of the night.

“Overall it was a good night,” he said. “We made a few changes in the feature and that seemed to help. The track was really tough though. The end result wasn’t what we wanted, but we’re heading in the right direction at Badlands. It’s always good when the car rolls into the trailer.”
