Mell Puts On Solid Showing at the Motorplex

JACKSON, MN (May 25) – Trevor Mell and the JR Construction team made the five hour haul from Harwood, ND to Jackson, MN for the grand opening of the newly remodeled and reconstructed Jackson Motorplex.

Mell began the night outside the front row of his heat race and jumped out to the lead at the drop of the green flag. After building up a comfortable lead, a late race caution erased Trevor’s advantage and put the entire field right on his tail tank. On the restart he reassumed the lead, but Trevor Serbus got a good run down the back straightaway and stole the lead in turn three. Mell took the checkers in second, which put him fifth on the starting grid for the 18-car, 15-lap feature.

The car had plenty of speed in the main event, but unfortunately the end result did not show it.

“We missed the setup in the feature and ended up going backwards fast,” said Trevor. “With about five laps left my front end started shaking really bad so I let off the throttle and started to slow along the backstretch wall. There was one car that must not have seen me slowing up and hit me from behind and pushed me into the wall, causing my front torsion tube to bend back.”

Mell was credited with a 15th place finish.
Repairs have already been made to the Powerhouse Bar & Grill #1AJ, however, thanks to the help of Hysteria Chassis.

“I have to thank Dale Bradly for helping get my car straight again. He has a mobile welding trailer he brings to the track and we were able to straighten everything back in a parking lot in Brandon, SD.”

Trevor will kick off the 305 season at Badlands Motor Speedway this Saturday night. Coming in as last season’s runner-up in the points, expectations are high.

“We are looking to run right where we left off at Badlands last season. We were close to that first place spot and that is what the team is gunning for this year.”

Trevor also feels as though the team is right on the cusp of its first feature win.

“We’re heading in the right direction. We are learning this new Myers Race Engine and Wolfweld Chassis combination, and our first win is close. I feel really comfortable in the car and that is a good feeling to have! Thanks to my sponsors for all of their support; Performance Auto, JR Construction, Jonny’s Barber in Sioux Falls, Powerhouse Bar & Grill, Panther Graphics of Sioux Falls, Dakota Cat and Octane Ink.”
