Grosz Races to Runner-Up Result at Fairmount

FAIRMOUNT, MN (June 8) – On a weekend where Mother Nature attempted to rain out every track in the upper Midwest, the Lee Grosz Racing team happened to find one that stayed high and dry and picked up a good finish in the process.

Thursday night the crew unloaded the Hi-10 Sports#4J at Fairmount Raceway for the GoMuddy.comNSL 360 Tri-State Region event.

Lee started third in heat race number two, but took the checkers in fourth.

“At the start of the night we definitely weren’t too good in the heat race,” said Lee. “We tried a few different things with the car, but we made improvements every time we hit the race track.”

Lee then started outside of the front row for the dash thanks to a fortunate redraw pill. A second place finish in the quick six-lap race put Grosz second on the grid for the 20-lap A-main with Ian Madsen to his inside.

“Madsen got out front right away and [Brian] Brown got by me for second on the start. About halfway through the race I started gaining on those guys and right as I got to Brown’s bumper his u-joint broke so the yellow came out.

On the restart Madsen pulled away from Grosz, but Lee was able to reel in the Aussie and place a bid for the lead in the closing laps.

“With three to go I hauled it on the outside going into turn three and got alongside of him, but he beat me into turn one and that was it. Once he saw me he started driving a little harder and got away from me at the end.”

Madsen took the win over Grosz as Tim Kaeding rounded out the podium.

The team planned on running Friday night at Jackson Motorplex, but rain cancelled that event early in the day. They then contemplated heading to I-80 Speedway, but a significant chance of rain kept them home and thankfully so because the race was cancelled shortly after hot laps due to rain.
