Heat Win & Top 10 Highlight Mell’s Night at Badlands

BRANDON, SD (July 26) – Racing continued Saturday night at Badlands Motor Speedway and Trevor Mell had the JR Construction/Performance Auto #1AJ ready to rock at the three-eighths mile dirt oval.

Trevor began the night starting outside of the front row for heat race number one. Mell jumped out to the early lead over pole sitter Dale Furby. Mell quickly got out to a comfortable lead over the rest of the pack and went on to lead all eight laps and pick up the win.

“The car was bad fast in the heat,” said Trevor. “I was a little worried because the track was slick and wet in hot laps, but we didn’t change a thing. I liked the track in the heat race. I just hit my marks and was pretty much out front with no one catching me. It was great to get a heat race win.”

Picking up the heat win set a good tone for the rest of the evening for the Trevor Mell Racing crew.

“Not gonna lie there is some tough drivers in that class with a lot more laps than me,” continued Trevor. “So finishing ahead of them even if I start on the front row isn’t an easy task.”

Trevor battled up front in the early going of the feature, but had to settle for a ninth place finish at the completion of the 15-lap event.

“The car was great on the bottom in the feature,” he said. “I tried going up top and got past a few guys and I wish I would have stayed on the bottom, but you live and learn. It was a great night. Our Myers motor ran great. We will finish up front soon.”
