Wade Takes River Cities Win in Dramatic Fashion!
GRAND FORKS, ND (August 23) – Entering Friday night’s Northern Outlaw Sprint Association (NOSA)program at River Cities Speedway, Wade Nygaard’s point advantage in the NOSA standings had diminished to just two markers over Casey Mack. The crew they desperately needed a good run to keep Wade’s drive for NOSA championship #9 alive; and that’s exactly what they got.
After finishing second to Mitch Mack in heat race two, Wade started the 25-lap Buffalo Wild Wings A-main in the eighth position. He didn’t stay back there long, however. By lap five Nygaard cracked the top three and one lap later he moved into second with a pass on Jack Croaker.
Wade then set his sights on leader, Mitch Mack.
“It seemed like every time we were able to catch [Mack] and hit lapped traffic, a yellow would come out,” said Nygaard. “The only chance we were going to get to make a pass on Mitch was in lapped traffic. On the restarts he would take the correct line up on the top and get a nice run, then we’d have to try to run him down again.”
In the closing laps Wade remained within striking distance and waited until the final lap to make a bid for the lead and the win.
“On the last lap he went low in turn three to go underneath a lapped car, which left me a little hole up high coming out of four. I was able to squeeze my way between a lapped car and the wall and got by Mitch at the same time and took the checkers.”
The win was Wade’s sixth of the season, 55th overall at River Cities, and 257th of his career.
Saturday the team went west to Devils Lake Speedway for the season finale at the Crary, ND quarter-mile.
Once again Wade started eighth on the 22-car grid.
“On the get go it started to lay a little bit of rubber, but we were able to get up to fourth. Then we had a restart and ended up falling back to ninth. On another restart we were able to gain a few spots back, but it was really tough to maneuver around later in the race.”
Wade brought the Auto Finance Super Center Fargo / ICON Architectural Group #9N in seventh.
“I was super happy for Nick Omdahl (who picked up his first career win). He’s a good friend of ours and if anybody was going to win, I’m glad they did.”
Racing resumes for the Nygaard Motorsports team Friday night at River Cities Speedway against theWorld of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.
“We’re going to go out there, give it 100 percent and try as hard as we can,” continued Nygaard. “Hopefully we can get into the top 10. If we can’t and we are able to roll it back in the trailer, that’d be alright too.”
