2016 Season-In-Review

HARWOOD, ND (October 4) – After kicking off the 2016 racing season back in early April, the year has finally come to an end for 360 Sprint Car pilot, Lee Grosz. It was another strong year for Lee behind the wheel of the HI-10 Sports Center/J&J #4J and it got off to a great start when he picked up his first win of the season in only his second start. That came on April 22nd at Rapids Speedway in Rock Rapids, IA with what was then known as the NSL Tri-State 360 Sprint Car Series.
“It’s always good to get a win early in the season like that,” said Lee. “It takes a little bit of pressure off you and they say that once you get the first one, the rest come easier and that was somewhat true for us, too.”

A rainy May and June allowed for only five nights of racing in that two-month span for the Harwood, ND driver. When the team was able to dodge the rain drops, however, they were fast. Lee scored four podium finishes in those five races in May and June before dominating UMSS action at Cedar Lake Speedway in early July.

“Cedar Lake was probably the highlight of our year. Winning two nights in a row there and being the support class for the World of Outlaws was pretty huge for us.”

Lee finished out July with a lot of momentum on his side after picking up three more top five finishes over the next six races. Lee and the team put lot of emphasis and preparation into the 360 Knoxville Nationals, but unfortunately it was all for not as a tough pill draw led to a less than stellar performance in preliminary action and put Lee behind the eight ball at the get go.

Lee got back up on his feet and rebounded quickly with a second place effort at Jackson Motorplex, followed by a win at Madison (MN) Speedway in his next two races.

The AGCO Jackson Nationals were also a high point of the season. Lee finished sixth in the A-main on his preliminary night and followed that up with a solid 13th place run against the best 360 drivers in the country. From there he would claim a 3rd place finish at Princeton (MN) Speedway in his final weekend of competition.

“It was a good year. I feel like we ran top three quite a bit and had a top three car almost everywhere we went. We ran some bigger races and didn’t tear too much stuff up until the last race of the year. We learned a lot of things and we brought Austin Bradley on board and that helped us out a lot. We learned a few things from him and overall I think it made us a stronger team.”

Lee ended 2016 with four wins, 13 top fives and 16 top tens in 24 races.

The entire Lee Grosz Racing team would like to thank all of their great sponsors for their continued support!
