Round 2: Paul Stone Leads Wire-to-Wire in Postponed Arizone Modified Tour Win at Cocopah
YUMA, Ariz. (February 11, 2017) – The Arizona Modified Tour was back at Cocopah Speedway Saturday night for the second of eight rounds of action. Heavy rains caused the races to be called off early on Saturday night, forcing the Modified A-main to be run the next afternoon.
The Cocopah Speedway track crew work diligently to get the racing surface back in order in a short time frame and all of their hard work paid off. Racing commenced as scheduled Sunday afternoon.
Paul Stone jumped out to the early lead in the Modified main event with Lucas Schott and Spencer Wilson in tow. Stone took advantage of starting up front and put on a dominating performance. The Winton, Calif. driver led all 20 laps and went on to take the $1,250 win. Stone was followed to the line by Hunter Marriott, Wilson, Schott, and Josh McGaha.
Jesse Sobbing made his way from 10th to finish sixth, while Jimmy Gustin finished seventh with Lance Mari wheeling from 15th to finish eighth. Shawn Strand and Ryan McDaniel rounded out the top 10.
