Austin Pierce Racing – Opening 2017 with the Outlaws!

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (April 6, 2017) – This weekend Austin Pierce Racing will kick the dust off their Ostrich/Schnee No. 2A in a big way as the team will take on the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series to open 2017.

The crew made the long haul from Grand Forks to Arizona for a pair of shows with the “Greatest Show on Dirt.” Racing begins Friday night with the Yuma Valley Showdown at Cocopah Speedway in Somerton, Ariz. and concludes Saturday with the Arizona Desert Shootout at ET Motopark Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Ariz.

Austin says this weekend will provide an excellent opportunity to shake down the car before racing starts around home.

“We got our motors back earlier than expected,” he said. “One night me and the team were out having a bite to eat and we just had a wild hair to book something to go south. We just want to make sure everything is working right. I’d like to come out with a top 10 at one of the tracks and hopefully leave with the car still in one piece.”

Traditionally, Austin has started his season at the local tracks, so to open the season at a pair of new tracks is certainly exciting for the team.

“We’ve started every year at River Cities Speedway. We’ve actually never really traveled beyond South Dakota so this will be a pretty good experience for us,” he said.

Looking ahead to the rest of 2017, Austin plans to hit a handful of World of Outlaws shows then the tour makes its way back to the upper Midwest in the middle of June and August. Other than the couple of shows Badlands Motor Speedway has on its schedule, he will be mainly running with the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association (NOSA).

Despite a slow start to the 2016 season, Austin and the crew rallied together to knock off five victories and became a threat to win the NOSA title towards the end of the season. When it was all said and done, they came up just 14 points shy but they are confident in their chances to reclaim the championship this year.

“We’ve got the same crew and the same cars this year. Hopefully, everything clicks right off the bat and we can start winning races,” he said. “Last year we got five wins so if we could get six or more this year, I’d be happy with that.”

Austin would like to thank all of his great sponsors for their continued support this year!
