KEVIN THOMAS, SR. TAKES NLSA OPENER AT BRRP!

GLYNDON, Minn. (May 15, 2017) – The 2017 Northern Lightning Sprint Association season opened Sunday evening at Buffalo River Race Park. Alabama’s Kevin Thomas, Sr. claimed the NLSA feature in the class’ first event as a weekly fixture on the BRRP schedule.
“This is my first time back in the car in about 11 years,” said Thomas, Sr. in victory lane. “I’ve never driven one of these so I didn’t know what it was going to do. And the first couple of laps showed that.”

Charles and Ryan Davis led the field to the green flag, but Alan Truscinski came from his fourth starting position to lead the opening lap.

Once out front, Truscinski pulled away from the field as Josh Abrahamson filed into second.

Truscinski had a somewhat comfortable lead over Abrahamson until Thomas, Sr. came charging through the field. Thomas, Sr. maneuvered by Abrahamson, a former BRRP Mod Four track champion, before setting his sights on Truscinski.

Thomas, Sr. made the winning pass for the lead on Truscinski on lap nine of 15 before checking out and taking the checkered flag.

“I kind of had to gather my wits and figure this thing out,” continued Thomas, Sr. “But we were able to have a good run. I’m out of breathe, but I had a great time.”

The NLSA Lightning Sprints will be back in action next Sunday evening at Buffalo River Race Park. Racing starts at 6:00pm.
