LEE GROSZ PICKS UP FIRST WIN OF 2017 AT FAIRMONT!

HARWOOD, N.D. (May 9, 2017) – Saturday night at Fairmont Raceway, Lee Grosz parked his Beds by Design/J&J No. 4J in victory lane as he picked up his first win of the 2017 season. Lee also had another solid run on Friday night at Rapids Speedway as he raced to a fourth place finish in the feature.

“Saturday night started off pretty well,” said Lee. “We drew pretty well and we started outside of the front row for the heat. Carson McCarl started on the pole and we raced side by side down the backstretch and I slid him in turns three and four to take the lead.”

Lee went on to dominate the heat race, picking up the win by nearly a half lap.

After redrawing the fourth starting position for the feature, Lee quickly moved into the second spot as the green flag flew on the opening lap.

“I ran second behind Carson [McCarl] for about eight laps,” said Lee. “He actually pulled away from me a bit, but I was able to run him down and pull another slider in three and four.”

Around the halfway point of the race, the caution was displayed, which could have saved the win for Lee.

“I was running the top and Skylar Prochaska pulled alongside me down the front stretch. I got kind of nervous when the yellow came out because I didn’t really know where I should run, but my crew guy was pointing me to the bottom. [Once the green came out] I went to the bottom and found there was rubber down there. After that we were pretty good.”

A few key moves in lapped traffic helped solidify Lee’s lead as he went on to take the win.

“We got to victory lane and both my dad and grandpa were standing right there. I made sure I drug them in there and made sure my grandpa got in the picture because he’s typically the guy who just walks back to the trailer after a win,” said Lee. “He doesn’t like getting in all the pictures. He just likes to keep to himself and is a humble guy. It looked like he enjoyed himself, though, he had a big smile on his face. You have to enjoy those moments.”

Friday night at Rapids Speedway, Lee picked up the heat race win after getting by Tommy Barber in the closing laps. The redraw placed Lee sixth on the starting grid for the feature.

“We tried a few things in the feature,” said Lee. “I wouldn’t say they were terrible, but now we know what not to do. It was a good learning night. We ended up fourth, but you can’t complain about a top five. My crew guy, Austin, and I have been meshing really well lately.”

Looking ahead, Lee will be back in action May 19th and 20th with the MSTS 360 Sprints at Rapid Speedway and Dakota State Fair Speedway.

“I’d like to thank my dad, he works his tail off all week long in the shop. Without him, none of this would be possible and I’d just like to than him, my mom, and my grandpa for giving me this opportunity. Big thanks to Austin and Curt Johnson for everything they do, too.”
