Nygaard Grabs Runner-up Finish at Jamestown
JAMESTOWN, N.D. (June 13, 2017) – Last weekend the Nygaard Motorsports crew had two events on their schedule, but were only able to get one complete show in the books. Friday night’s event at River Cities Speedway was called off right before the NOSA Sprint Car feature due to inclimate weather. Nygaard finished second in his heat race. A make-up date for the feature has yet to be determined.
On Saturday, the Auto Finance Super Center / ICON Architecture Group team made the haul to Jamestown Speedway, where Wade last won in 2013. The event marked the first appearance by the NOSA Sprints since 2014 and brought in a tremendous crowd.
After a dominating performance in the heat race, Nygaard started third in the feature.
On the initial start, Nygaard got a good jump and took the lead exiting turn two, but a caution reset the field and forced a complete restart. Nygaard filed into second on the restart behind Jordan Adams.
As Adams entered lapped traffic, Nygaard was able to close in on the No. 20A and challenged him for the lead.
Around the halfway point, Nygaard attempted to make a move on the outside of a lapped car, which forced him out of the narrow groove and shuffled him back to fourth behind Austin Pierce and Bob Martin.
Nygaard was able to recover and get back into third, but Pierce had driven away with second.
On the final lap, Pierce’s right rear tire expired, which allowed Nygaard to drive by to claim the runner-up position at the checkers.
This coming weekend, Nygaard will be taking on the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series in a pair of events at River Cities Speedway and Red River Valley Speedway.
“We’re going to go out there and give it 100%. If we can walk away with a top 10, we’ll be happy,” Nygaard said.
The nine-time NOSA champ says there is a lot of pressure put on the two laps during time trials.
“It’s tough to time trial when you don’t do it all that often,” he said. “If we race 50 times a year, we might only time trial three or four times and those times are usually with the World of Outlaws. There is an act to it and in all my years of racing I still have yet to figure it out.
