Austin Pierce Extends Top Five Streak at Devils Lake!

CRARY, N.D. (July 24, 2017) – Austin Pierce and the Opp Construction / Lithia Ford team made the trip west to Devils Lake Speedway Saturday night to make their third appearance of the season at the high-banked quarter-mile dirt oval. By night’s end, Pierce would secure his 13th consecutive top five finish with the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints.

On Friday, late afternoon rains washed out the night at River Cities Speedway.

Pierce’s night at Devils Lake got off to a great start in the heat. The driver of the InVision Ag / AJ’s Sandblasting No. 2A stormed from dead last to win the 10-lap heat.

“It was a good heat race. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out for us on the redraw,” said Pierce. “We were highest in points, then they inverted eight, which made us start eighth.”

As the green flag waved on the main event, Pierce didn’t stay back in that eighth position for very long.

Pierce followed Casey Mack to the front through the early going of the race as he cracked the top five on lap seven.

After reaching the fourth position one lap later, Pierce ran there over the course of the next 15 laps.

Pierce shot into second after moving by both Wade Nygaard and Casey Mack in one lap, but a quick yellow negated his passes.

“I would have rather not had the yellow. It was just Blake Egeland in front of me, but the yellow forced us back to fourth,” said Pierce after the race. “I got up to third after the restart and tried making a run on the last lap and hit the rut at the top of turn one. It kicked me out of the line and I fell back a spot to (Nick) Omdahl.”

With Casey Mack finishing in second, he etched a little chunk out of Pierce’s NOSA points lead. Pierce still has a comfortable lead atop the NOSA standings heading into the final weekend of July.

The entire APR crew would like to thank their sponsors for their continued support!
