HARWOOD, N.D. (July 5, 2017) – Last week the Beds by Design / HI-10 Sports Center team was back in action with a pair of MSTS 360 events on the docket. First up was Thursday’s race at Casino Speedway in Watertown, S.D.
After picking up his fourth heat race win of the season, Lee rolled off sixth for the 30-lap main event. Unfortunately, Lee was involved in an incident in the early going of the feature, which forced him to settle with a 17th place finish and just his first DNF of the season.
On Friday, the team loaded up and made the haul to Rock Rapids, Iowa for a night at the three-eighths mile dirt oval.
Once again, Lee raced to a heat win. Lee drove by John Lambertz on the second lap before taking the win by 1.5 seconds over Eric Lutz.
Lee then lined up sixth on the 19-car starting grid for the 20-lap feature.
A pair of red flags on the first two attempts to get the feature started resulted in Lee moving up to the front row for the third attempt.
Dusty Ballenger took the race lead as the first lap was completed, while Lee settled into the second spot. Ninth place starter, Ryan Bickett, came up to challenge Lee on lap two, but the Harwood, N.D. driver fended off the charge to hold the runner-up spot.
With seven to go, Bickett came back with another bid for second and took the position away. Lee tried to reclaim the position, but was forced to settle into the final podium position.
Lee stayed within striking distance of the lead duo in the closing laps, while enjoying a five second cushion over fourth place runner, Brant O’Banion.
At the checkers, Lee finished in the third spot, marking his 10th top five in 14 races.
