Peterson Edges out Petermann for Second NCR Win of 2017!

ADA, Minn. (June 29, 2017) – A solid contingent of race teams and race fans were in attendance Thursday at Norman County Raceway as Norman County Implement presented Thursday Night Thunder. Tyler Peterson, Luke Johnson, and Aaron Olson picked up the Speedway Motors IMCA Weekly Racing wins, while Brock Gronwold claimed the WISSOTA PolyDome Dirt Track Series checkered flag. Tim Estenson won in INEX Legends action.

Tyler Peterson picked up his second win of the season after a thrilling finish to the Sanders Metal Products IMCA Modified feature. After taking the lead away from Brady Petermann with seven laps to go, Peterson looked to check out and take the win.

However, a caution with five to go put Petermann and Jason Strand right on the back bumper of Peterson’s No. 1TPO. On the restart, Strand slid backwards, but Petermann was able to maintain pace with Peterson.

Petermann kept within two car lengths of the Kindred, N.D. driver before placing a bid for the lead on the final lap. As they entered turns three and four, Petermann drove the high groove before diving down to the bottom of the track. That gave him a run down the front straightaway as he pulled alongside Peterson coming to the checkers.

At the line, Peterson took the win by a half car length for his second win of the season at NCR.

Aaron Olson dominated the Norman County Implement IMCA Stock Car feature. Olson is still undefeated at NCR this year.

The Titan Machinery IMCA SportMod feature went to Moorhead’s Luke Johnson. The driver of the No. 8J took the lead from Kelly Jacobson with eight laps to go before having to hold of Jesse Skalicky in the closing laps.

For Skalicky, it was an eventful feature. After spinning on the opening lap, Skalicky passed six cars on the restart before charging all the way up to second and challenging for the lead. At the checkers, Johnson prevailed by one car length.

Tim Estenson scored his 10th win of the season. The second-year Petermann Seeds INEX Legend driver took the lead with 10 laps to go and grabbed the checkers over Tye Wilke.

There wasn’t much straight sheet metal left following the Christian Motors WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature. Several multi-car pileups plagued the event as drivers vied for position on the fast and tacky three-eighths mile oval.

Brock Gronwold led 17 of the 18 laps, but controversy arose in the closing stages. Dylan Goplen led Gronwold by a nose as the field took the white flag and charged into turn one. With Goplen up top, Gronwold ran the low side. As the lead duo exited turn two, they made contact, which resulted in Goplen spinning into the outside retaining wall, ending his night.

Gronwold paced the field on the ensuing green-white-checkered restart and took his second win of the season at NCR to mix emotions from the crowd.

Racing continues Thursday, July 13th, presented by Titan Machinery. Green flag drops at 7pm.
