VanMil Ends Olson’s Win Streak, Claims King Pin Klash

ADA, Minn. (July 20, 2017) – Racing continued Thursday night at Norman County Raceway as RDO Equipment and The Bowler presented the King Pin Klash. The King Pin Klash has been a WISSOTA Street Stock special every year prior, but the addition of the IMCA Stock Cars to Norman County Raceway this year meant the event has made the switch to IMCA as well.

Aaron Olson was the heavy favorite as he entered the night undefeated in Stock Car competition at Norman County Raceway. The Mekinock, N.D. driver has won the first eight features of the season at NCR, dating back to May 11th.

Rick Schulz jumped out to the early lead as the King Pin Klash went green, and enjoyed a comfortable lead for the first two circuits. It didn’t take for Rob VanMil long to make his way to the front from the fifth position.

After moving into second, VanMil set his sights on Schulz with four laps in the books. VanMil steadily tracked down the Horace, N.D. driver before taking the lead down low at the halfway point. Olson kept up with VanMil’s torrid pace as he grabbed the second position two laps later.

In the closing laps, Olson had VanMil within his grasp. Olson reached VanMil’s back bumper exiting turn two on the final lap. It came down to a drag race off of turn four, where VanMil edged out Olson to claim his first career Norman County Implement Stock Car win.

Tim Estenson claimed a convincing win in the Petermann Seeds INEX Legends. The 15-year-old from Fargo cruised to his 14th win of the season.

Harwood, North Dakota’s Michael Johnson dominated the Sander’s Metal Products IMCA Modified feature to claim his first win of the 2017 season. Johnson took the lead from Brady Petermann on lap seven before setting sail and checking out. Dale Kraling, who was on a three-race win streak, moved into second and closed the gap between himself and Johnson in the final laps, but came up short at the checkers.

Jake Hagemann of Brainerd recorded his first career Norman County Raceway win in the Titan Machinery IMCA SportMods. Hagemann grabbed the lead on lap two and led until the caution flew on lap nine.

On the restart, Aaron Wetterlin and Luke Johnson went three wide with Hagemann, but Hagemann was able to maintain the lead and take the win.

Aaron Blacklance wheeled his beaten and battered Christian Brothers Ford WISSOTA Midwest Modified to the feature. Blacklance took the lead on the opening lap, but with 11 laps to go Blacklance got spun in turn three. Jamie Dietzler had nowhere to go and slammed into the front end of Blacklance. Dietzler was done for the night, but Blacklance was able to rejoin the field as the leader.

Reise Stenberg put pressure on Blacklance on the final lap, but the Thief River Falls driver was able to hold on to pick up the win.

Next week at NCR features half price admission. Ages 13 and up can get in for $6, while 12 and under are free.
