Event Preview: NLRA Late Models
By Mike Spieker
WEST FARGO, N.D. (August 1, 2017) – Tomorrow night the Northern Late Model Racing Association (NLRA) invades Red River Valley Speedway for their first and only appearance of the 2017 season, presented by The Forum, Inland Truck Parts & Service, Corwin Automotive, and Bernie’s Wines & Liquors.
Coming into the night, Ricky Weiss and Dustin Strand are deadlocked atop the NLRA point standings. Weiss has one NLRA feature win to his credit this season to Strand’s two, but Weiss edged out Strand for the win when the NLRA Late Models were last in action on July 22nd at Devils Lake Speedway. The only other driver to win an NLRA event this season not named Weiss or Strand is Brad Seng. Seng picked up his lone win at Greenbush Race Park on July 15th.
Besides Strand and Seng, another driver to watch will be Cole Schill. Wednesday night will be a homecoming for the West Fargo driver, who dominated the NLRA’s first visit to RRVS last year.
Strand won the other NLRA event last season, which marked his second overall win on the RRVS three-eighth mile configuration. Ricky Weiss leads all Late Model drivers with four wins on the three-eighths mile.
Wednesday night is also Cruise night at the speedway. Classic cars and hot rods will be on display in front of the grandstands all evening long.
Donny Schatz, who will be racing his Fargo Petro / Rocket Chassis No. 15 Wednesday at RRVS and Thursday at Norman County Raceway, will be apart of a pre-race meet and greet with NLRA series champions Brad Seng and Dustin Strand from 6:00pm – 6:30pm.
