Pavlicek Prevails for Sanders Mod Tour Win at Norman County Raceway
ADA, Minn. (August 17, 2017) – A season high 47 IMCA Modifieds were checked in Thursday night for the opening night of the second annual Sanders Modified Challenge Tour at Norman County Raceway. In his first appearance of the season at NCR, defending tour champion, Rich Pavlicek, raced to the win over a strong contingent of drivers in the main event.
Pavlicek started on the pole of the 25-lap, 24-car A-main and jumped out to the lead at the drop of the green flag. Michael Greseth and Josh Eberhardt filed into second and third, respectively.
On lap five, Greseth was able to reel in Pavlicek, who was running the extreme high groove, and sneak underneath him to claim the lead. Greseth quickly opened up a 10 car length lead over Pavlicek, but a caution with 16 to go brought the field right back to Greseth’s rear bumper.
On the restart, Tyler Peterson momentarily took second away from Pavlicek, but Pavlicek reclaimed the position down the back straightaway.
Pavlicek kept moving forward and took the lead away from Greseth in turns one and two, utilizing the extreme low groove. Greseth immediately followed suit and went back to the low side in attempt to track down Pavlicek.
Pavlicek was too quick, however, as he opened up a comfortable lead out front and cruised to his first Norman County Raceway win of 2017. Greseth, Peterson, John Correll, and B-main transfer Austin Arneson rounded out the top five.
Jesse Skalicky claimed his third consecutive win at NCR in the Titan Machinery IMCA SportMods. The Fargo, N.D. driver started sixth on the grid and took the lead with a three wide pass over Matt Talley and Andy Wagner.
The Norman County Implement IMCA Stock Car feature went to Aaron Olson for the 11th time this season. Olson took the lead on lap two, but was never able to break loose of Rick Schulz’s grasp. Schulz placed a bid for the lead on the final lap, but wasn’t able to muster up enough momentum on the high side to get by Olson at the checkers.
Joe Thomas and Brock Gronwold led the Christian Motors WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds to the green flag for their 15-lap main event. Gronwold grabbed sole possession of the lead exiting turn two on the opening lap. Fargo’s Dylan Goplen followed Gronwold into second and steadily reeled him in.
With 11 circuits remaining, Goplen moved by Gronwold to take the lead. Gronwold came charging back, but Goplen was too strong. Goplen went on to claim his second win of the season at Norman County and fourth win overall.
Next Thursday will mark the end of the 2017 season at Norman County Raceway with Season Championship night, presented by KRJB 106.5FM.
