Pierce Records a Pair of Runner-Up Finishes!

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (August 7, 2017) – Last weekend Austin Pierce had a pair of races with the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprint Cars lined up. The racing weekend began Friday night at River Cities Speedway, where Austin was looking for his 3rd win of the season.

The evening got off to a solid start as Austin drove his Opp Construction / Lithia Ford No. 2A to a second place run in his heat. The redraw during intermission placed him seventh on the stout 27-car starting grid.

As the green flag flew on the main event, Austin quickly began working his way forward. By lap three, Austin had moved into the fourth position, but on the following lap his race took a turn for the worse. Austin’s nose wing dismounted from three of the four wing struts as it dangled from his Ostrich powered Schnee.

“I didn’t know what happen right away,” said Austin after the race. “Then I quickly realized that my front wing had come loose. I was kind of disappointed because we had a shot at the win before that happened. I figured we would just keep going until a yellow came out. It got worse and worse and the wing got up in my vision so we fell back quite aways.”

Luckily a much needed caution flew at the midpoint of the race. Austin quickly drove into the work area, where the crew ripped off the wing so Austin could continue.

“I restarted 15th or 16th with 13 laps to go. I just drove my way through the field. I didn’t think we were going to be able to move forward and I thought our top five streak was done,” said Austin.

Despite the severe lack of downforce, Austin cruised all the way up to second.

“It was difficult to hang onto. With that rough, choppy cushion, anytime I’d grab it with the right rear, the front end would lift up. I tried to run everywhere around the track. Middle, bottom, top. I was always on the brake and on the gas at the same time. Congrats to Casey (Mack) on the win, he did a great job.”

On Saturday, the Austin Pierce Racing team made their third and final appearance of the season atDevils Lake Speedway. Austin raced to his 10th heat win of 2017, before rolling off seventh for the 25-lap Performance Auto main event.

Once again, Austin charged through the field at the drop of the green flag. At the halfway point, Austin’s run plateaued in the fourth position, but the 2014 NOSA champion was able to grab a couple of positions after a late race restart. Austin grabbed the second position before the top lane rubbered up as he followed Nick Omdahl to the checkers.

Austin currently holds the River Cities Speedway and NOSA points lead by a comfortable margin heading into next Friday’s non-track or -series points show.

The entire APR crew would like to thank their sponsors for their continued support!
