Seng’s Runner-up at Sheyenne Highlights Rain-Soaked Weekend

By Mike Spieker

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (August 8, 2017) – What was supposed to be a fun, yet grueling five race stretch turned into a wet, rainy three race weekend for Brad Seng Racing. Wednesday night’s event at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo was postponed to August 23rd due to rain. The Jamestown Speedway event was also rained out shortly after the teams made the 170 mile trip from Grand Forks.

Seng and the NLRA Late Models still were able to get plenty of racing in over the weekend. It all began on Thursday night at Norman County Raceway. Brad raced to a convincing heat race win to begin the night, which placed him in the fourth starting position for the A-main.

Come feature time, passing was at a premium around the high-banked three-eighths mile clay oval. Brad jockeyed for position all race long, but when the checkers flew, he crossed the line in the fourth spot.

On Friday night, weekly competition resumed at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks. Following a third place run in his heat, Brad took to the three-tenths mile bullring in the fifth starting position for the 25-lap feature. Again, Brad worked both up and down the running order throughout the duration of the event, finishing just outside of the top five in the sixth position.

NLRA action continued Sunday, where the series made its first trip to Sheyenne River Speedway in Lisbon in 11 years. A soldout crowd was in attendance with a stout field of 30 Late Models on hand. Brad raced to his fifth heat race win of the season, which put him outside of the front row for the 20-lap main event.

At the drop of the green flag, Brad jumped out to the early lead after a three wide battle with Don Shaw and Dustin Strand. Shaw settled into second behind Brad as the top three rode single file around the quarter-mile oval. Things got tight when Brad reached lapped traffic. Brad made slight contact with a lapped car exiting turn two, which allowed Shaw to make a move to the inside.

Shaw claimed the lead entering turn three, as Brad was forced to second. Brad did everything he could to reel in the Ham Lake, Minn. driver in the closing laps, but fell short as Shaw took the win.

Brad has moved up to third in the NLRA series standings, just 14 points behind Dustin Strand, who sits second behind Ricky Weiss.
