Nygaard Collects 18th Consecutive NOSA Top Five at River Cities
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (September 7, 2017) – When it comes to Northern Outlaw Sprint Association competition this year, Wade Nygaard and the Auto Finance Super Center team have been on their game each and every night. In 18 events with Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints, Wade has finished in the top five in every one of them so far in 2017.
Last Friday night was no exception.
The Nygaard Motorsports crew unloaded at River Cities Speedway, where early afternoon rains made for a fast and tacky high-banked bullring.
Wade began the night by picking up a second place finish in his heat, which lined up him fourth on the starting grid for the 25-lap main event.
“The car was a little too tight the whole race. We were hoping it was going to blow off a little bit,” said Wade of the moisture in the racing surface. “But it just never did. Even if we would have been a little bit looser, I don’t think we would have finished much better. They would have had to screw up for us to get by them. Every time we got to lapped cars and had a chance to make a pass, we’d get a yellow flag.”
By feature time for the NOSA Sprints, the groove was only a car width and a half wide, which made passing extremely difficult. On a track like that, Wade says momentum is key to being fast.
“It comes down to getting by lapped cars and make a nice line around the track. Keep the car free, keep the car straight, and keep going forward. Just don’t get yourself in a bad position. We were with the leaders the whole race and if they would have screwed up, we would have got them, but we never really got that chance.”
Wade crossed the line in third behind Chris Ranten and Austin Pierce.
Entering this weekend’s Friday and Saturday doubleheader at River Cities Speedway, Wade sits third in River Cities Speedway track points, just four points behind Casey Mack with three races remaining at the three-tenths mile dirt oval, despite missing three events. However, neither Wade or the crew are worried about points this late in the season. They are only looking for wins.
