Kennedy Records Runner-Up Finish at River Cities

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (May 15, 2018) – Coming off his second win of the season, Thomas Kennedy was looking to go back to victory lane Friday night at River Cities Speedway. The event with the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints was Kennedy’s first of the season with a 410 motor under the hood of the Kennedy Floorings No. 21K.

Kennedy started the night off by picking up a heat race win. Kennedy started third on the grid but quickly moved into second on lap one. From there, the driver of the Buffalo Wild Wings / General Signs machine chased Wade Nygaard.

On the final lap, Kennedy placed a bid for the lead and snuck by Nygaard coming to the checkers to take the win by 0.290 seconds.

Kennedy redrew the one pill to start on the pole for the 25-lap feature.

Kennedy grabbed the early lead as Dobmeier drove from fourth to second on the opening lap. Kennedy pulled away from Dobmeier and the rest of the pack, but the field was stopped on lap four for a red flag.

On the restart, Kennedy and Dobmeier engaged in a spectacular battle for the lead. The lead duo exchanged the lead no less than eight times over the course of three laps as they traded slide jobs at each end of the three-tenths mile oval.

The caution waved once again on lap six.

On the ensuing restart, Dobmeier got the jump and took the lead coming to the green. Kennedy set out to chase down Dobmeier, but he was just too fast. Kennedy was forced to settle for second at the checkers as Dobmeier took the win.

The forecast isn’t favorable for much Sprint Car racing in the Midwest this weekend, but weather-pending, Kennedy will be back in action at Jackson Motorplex on Friday and Knoxville Raceway on Saturday. He will be running a 410 Friday at the all-new three-eighths mile oval at Jackson and a 360 at Knoxville.
