CRARY, N.D. (May 22, 2018) – After Friday night’s event at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks was canceled due to rain, Austin Pierce and the Opp Construction / Lithia Ford crew made the 65 mile trip west to Devils Lake Speedway in Crary, N.D. on Saturday.
The co-sanctioned event between the Buffalo Wild Wings Northern Outlaw Sprint Association (NOSA)and the Canadian-American Outlaw Sprint Car Series brought in a solid 23 car field for the second night of racing at the high-banked quarter-mile clay oval.
Pierce started mid-pack in the third and final heat race, but moved forward to finish second behind Jordan Adams. That put the two-time and defending NOSA champion eighth on the grid for the 25-lap feature.
“The track was really good in the feature,” said Pierce. “It was more favored to the bottom, but Chris Ranten and I got running around the top. We picked off a few cars and we got up to third and fourth before a yellow came out.
“On the restart, all the cars running the bottom shot up marbles in the high groove. That forced us down to the low groove for most of the race.”
On the final restart with three to go, Pierce got alongside Ranten for the third spot. Pierce got a run on the outside of turn four to steal the position at the checkers.
This Friday, Pierce will be back in action at River Cities Speedway. Early in the season, the team has been experimenting with different setups, but Pierce says the team will be back to their tried and true setup they were successful with last year.
The entire APR crew would like to thank their sponsors for their continued support!
