Top Five at Knoxville Highlights Grosz’s Strong Weekend

HARWOOD, N.D. (May 22, 2018) – Lee Grosz and the HI-10 Sports Center team were back in action last weekend. The weekend opened Friday night with the MSTS 360s at Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa.

After claiming his third consecutive heat race win, Lee redrew the two pill which put him on the outside of the front row for the main event.

“Jack Dover drew the one pill so I knew I was going to have my work cut out in the feature,” said Lee. “Dover got the jump on the start, but I actually got underneath him in turn three to get the lead on the first lap. I was running the bottom, just trying to play it safe because the top was a little tricky.

“About 10 laps in we were running well until the motor started smoking a little bit. Then all of the sudden it went up in smoke big time and I couldn’t see anything. I got it shut down then it went up in flames, but luckily it didn’t burn anything on the car or myself. It would have been a good race with Dover if we could have finished the race.”

After the race, the problem was diagnosed as a ruptured oil line. Despite being credited with 13th, Lee still holds a 28 point lead over Eric Lutz atop the MSTS point standings.

On Saturday, Lee made his second appearance of the season at the “Sprint Car Capital of the World,” Knoxville Raceway.

“It seems like every time we go back to Knoxville this year we keep getting better every time we hit the race track,” said Lee.

Lee went out towards the end of time trials, but still managed to lay down the eighth quickest lap. From there, he finished third in his heat, which lined him up sixth in the feature.

“I lost a couple spots at the start of the feature, but towards the end I felt like I got it rolling pretty good and had good speed. We have a few things in mind to hopefully make us a little bit better there next time. Any time you can run in the top five at Knoxville, that’s a good night,” he said.
