Dobmeier Cashes In at Casino Speedway

By Mike Spieker

WATERTOWN, S.D. (June 24, 2018) – The Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints wrapped up their four-race swing through Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota on Sunday night at Casino Speedway in Watertown. A season-high 27 Sprint Cars were checked in for the series’ first-ever appearance at the tight, high-banked quarter-mile oval. Several 360 Sprint Car drivers from the greater Sioux Falls area made the trip to Casino to take on the 410s. The four heats races were split with two 360 drivers and two NOSA 410 drivers picking up wins.

As usual, the NOSA Sprints did their traditional four-wide salute to the fans, but the pole position was left open on Sunday in memory of World of Outlaws driver Jason Johnson, who suffered fatal injuries at Beaver Dam (WI) Raceway the previous night.

Nick Omdahl and Shane Roemeling shared the front row for the 25-lap feature. At the drop of the green flag, Omdahl got sideways in turn two and wheelied, which triggered a caution. Omdahl regained control of his No. 0 machine, but was still called for the yellow.

On the ensuing restart, Thomas Kennedy took the lead over Roemeling as Dobmeier followed him into second. Dobmeier remained within striking distance of Kennedy until the leaders hit heavy lapped traffic. Kennedy was able to stretch out his advantage at the halfway point to nearly a half lap.

Kennedy and Dobmeier took off on the restart with Jade Hastings in third. The yellow was quickly displayed again as Ty Hanten and Roemeling got together in turn four. Dobmeier completed a slide job on Kennedy for the lead as the raced resumed, but Kennedy took the position back down the back stretch. In turn three, Hastings caught a rut and spun, collecting Blake Egeland.

Dobmeier took the lead again on the restart and fended off Kennedy’s charge to regain the spot. The race was halted once more with three laps to go as Jordan Martens got upside down on the back straightaway. He was ok.

Dobmeier held off Kennedy again on the final restart as he cruised to his first-ever win at Casino Speedway.

“I knew I needed to get a good run on him on that restart to get underneath [Kennedy] in that first corner. That was about my only chance. Once we got in open track, Kennedy was blazing fast,” said Dobmeier in victory lane.
