Nygaard Collects Second Career Jamestown Win

By Mike Spieker

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (June 12, 2018) – The Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints made their only appearance of the season to Jamestown Speedway Saturday night. A solid field of 18 Sprints were checked in for action at the high-banked quarter-mile clay oval.

Nick Omdahl jumped out to the early lead over Greg Nikitenko at the start of the 25-lap main event. Fourth-place starter, Wade Nygaard, got by Bob Martin and Nikitenko in the opening laps to secure second.

From there, Nygaard chased the No. 0 of Omdahl, but Omdahl appeared to have the fastest car on the track. Omdahl opened up a full straightaway lead over Nygaard with nine laps in the books, but a caution flew on lap 10.

Omdahl stretched his lead out once again as the race resumed. Omdahl’s advantage remained a somewhat comfortable six car lengths with four laps to go. Amidst heavy lapped traffic, Omdahl split two lapped cars which seemed to all but clinch his first career Jamestown win.

However, the caution flew with two laps to go after a car spun to a stop in turn two. The first attempt at a green-white-checkered finish was called back after contact back in eighth resulted in Blake Egeland suffering damage to the steering of his machine. The restart also showed that Omdahl had a broken left front shock as his left front wheel bounced uncontrollably in turn one.

On the ensuing restart, Nygaard drove to the inside of Omdahl in turn one as Omdahl’s damaged left front pushed him up the track. Bob Martin followed Nygaard into second as Omdahl miraculously regained control of his car to blend back into third.

Nygaard raced back around to take the checkers and claim his 129th career NOSA win over Martin, Omdahl, Jade Hastings and Nikitenko.
