Kennedy looks to ride momentum into Jackson & Knoxville this weekend

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (July 20, 2018) – After picking up his fifth win of the season on Sunday at Red River Valley Speedway, Thomas Kennedy looks carry that momentum into two big races this weekend.

Kennedy will return to Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn. for the $5,000-to-win Midwest Power Series event, featuring the MSTS and Nebraska 360s. In Kennedy’s last appearance at Jackson Motorplex on June 29th, he scored the win.

On Saturday, the Kennedy Floorings / Buffalo Wild Wings team will head south to Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa for another tuneup for the 360 and 410 Knoxville Nationals.

Kennedy last visited Knoxville on June 30th and charged from 11th to fourth before weather ended the race prematurely.

Last weekend, Kennedy ran a trio of events with the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints. Coming off a second place finish on Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, Kennedy looked poised to visit victory lane Saturday at Devils Lake Speedway.

Kennedy dominated the main event at Devils Lake until the caution flew with two laps to go, which erased Kennedy’s half-lap lead. On the restart, Kennedy found himself battling with Austin Pierce. In turns three and four on the final lap, Pierce was able to get underneath Kennedy and steal the win coming to the checkers. In heartbreaking fashion, Kennedy hung on to record his second runner-up finish of the weekend.

Sunday was a different story.

After winning his heat, Kennedy started fifth on the grid for the A-main at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, N.D. Kennedy shot into the lead in the opening laps and checked out from the field. Kennedy’s advantage stretched out to a full straightaway at the halfway point of the race. In the closing laps, Mark Dobmeier reeled in Kennedy in lapped traffic, but Dobmeier got upside down after clipping an infield tire barrier.

The race resumed with two laps to go and Kennedy opened up a big lead over Wade Nygaard on the restart. Kennedy went unchallenged as the cruised to his fifth win of the season.

A big thanks goes out to all the Kennedy Racing Team sponsors: Kennedy Floorings, Buffalo Wild Wings, Big Trucks by Jimco, General Signs and Speedway Shots.
