Kennedy’s races to runner-up finish at Jackson Motorplex

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (July 24, 2018) – Thomas Kennedy returned to Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minnesota on Friday night for the $5,000-to-win Midwest Power Series event, featuring the MSTS and Nebraska 360 Sprints.

Kennedy opened the night with a heat race win and a second place finish in the dash, which lined up the Kennedy Floorings No. 21K outside of the front row for the main event.

Kennedy settled into second in the early going but reeled in Dominic Scelzi for the lead in lapped traffic. Kennedy executed a slide job for the lead while three-wide with Scelzi and a lapped car to take the lead with 16 laps to go. Scelzi returned the favor at the other end of the race track, but Kennedy crossed over to regain the lead just as the caution flew.

Restarting second, Kennedy again rallied to slide Scelzi for the lead. Kennedy held the lead down the straightaway as Scelzi and Lee Grosz made it a three-wide battle in turns three and four. Coming out of turn four, the caution was displayed once again.

Kennedy gave Scelzi one more challenge on the green-white-checkered restart. In turn one, Kennedy cleared the Roth Motorsports No. 41, but Scelzi countered with a crossover to regain the lead. Kennedy went on to finish second in one of the most exciting races of the year at the newly reconfigured four-tenths mile.

On Saturday, Kennedy made the haul down to Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. After timing in 14th quick out of 36 cars, Kennedy raced to the win in heat number two.

Kennedy was slated to start 10th for the feature, but as the race went green, the weld on the wing slider tab on the wing tree broke causing the wing to come off the posts. Kennedy was forced to retire from the event on lap one.
