Nygaard Races to Runner-up Finish at Devils Lake

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (July 25, 2018) – Wade Nygaard and the Auto Finance Super Center team had a three-race weekend lined up last week. However, Thursday night’s event at Norman County Raceway in Ada, Minn. was canceled due to rain.

That left River Cities Speedway on Friday at Devils Lake Speedway on Saturday.

During the feature on Friday, Nygaard was running solidly in the second position when the No. 9N machine snapped around on Nygaard in turn three. Third-place runner, Jade Hastings, had nowhere to go and made heavy contact with Nygaard ending both of their nights.

“I was fighting an extremely free car. Turns out, we had an issue with the left rear shock,” explained Nygaard. “That was the reason the car kept locking up… and not letting it get any traction. All of a sudden the car just looped around on me.”

On Saturday, Nygaard recorded his 10th podium finish with a second place finish at Devils Lake.

“We got passed by a couple cars right away in the feature, but our car started coming around towards the end,” said Nygaard. “We kind of set up for the track to take rubber. We thought it was going to take rubber much sooner than it did. We were running pretty good at the end and everybody else got a little tight.”

Nygaard took advantage of a pair of late-race restarts to move from fourth to claim second at the checkers.

This weekend, Nygaard will be making a rare appearance at Dacotah Speedway in Mandan, N.D. for the Buffalo Wild Wings Governor’s Cup with the NOSA Sprints.

“If you’re just racing the same tracks all the time, it gets a little stale. It’s nice to get to tracks you haven’t been to in awhile and see how you do,” said Nygaard.

Nygaard’s last visit at Dacotah Speedway came on July 30th, 2011 where he finished seventh with the NOSA Sprints.
