Seng, Omdahl, Strand & Bundy Race to Devils Lake Speedway Wins

By Mike Spieker

CRARY, N.D. (July 22, 2018) – Devils Lake Speedway hosted another big night of Professional Dirt Series action featuring the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints, Canadian-American Outlaw Sprints (CAOSS) and the WISSOTA Late Models.
Brad Seng of Grand Forks claimed his first WISSOTA Late Model win of 2018 in convincing fashion. The three-time NLRA series champion took the lead from Ryan Corbett on lap three and never looked back.

Dustin Strand was able to get by Corbett on lap eight as he set his sights on Seng for the lead. By then, Seng had already established a full straightaway lead. Strand closed in on Seng a bit in the closing laps, but it wasn’t enough to put pressure on Seng as he cruised to the win.

Strand, Corbett, Cole Schill and Mike Balcaen rounded out the top five.

For the third time this season and seventh time overall, Nick Omdahl claimed the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints / CAOSS feature win.

Third place starter, Greg Nikitenko, raced by Jordan Adams and Wade Nygaard to take the lead on the opening lap. Nikitenko pulled out to a five car length lead as Adams and Shane Roemeling completed the top three in the early stages.

At the halfway point, Nikitenko had stretched his advantage to a full straightaway. Meanwhile, Omdahl slid by Adams for the second position. With 10 to go, the top side of the speedway began to take rubber, which played right into Omdahl’s hands. Omdahl quickly reeled in Nikitenko and blew by the No. 6N machine to take the lead.

Nikitenko, who had been running the bottom of the speedway the entire race, followed Omdahl to the high side as Austin Pierce ran a close third.

A trio of cautions with under six to go kept the field bunched up. Despite the restarts, Omdahl held on to take the win. Nygaard took advantage of the restarts to move from fourth to second as Pierce, Nikitenko and Roemeling rounded out the top five.

“The bottom was really good at the start of the race. Then we caught up to Adams and got by him on the top for second. I couldn’t even see Nikitenko… he was way out front. I caught up to him… he was running the bottom. I don’t think he knew there was rubber up top,” said Omdahl of his charge to the lead. “I just got by him in the rubber on the top.”

Dustin Strand led wire to wire to claim the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature win. Strand started on the pole and grabbed the lead over fifth place starter, Ryan Schroeder. Schroeder ran in the second spot until he fell to fourth with five laps to go. The Devils Lake, N.D. driver was able to rally back up to the front in the final circuits and claimed the runner-up spot on the final lap.

Lance Schill, Jess Brekke and Cole Haugland rounded out the top five behind Strand and Schroeder.

Tony Bundy came from seventh to claim the Pure Stock feature win. Bundy took the victory over Cody Armstrong, Colten Laber, Daniel Bromstead and MiKara Johanson. The win was Bundy’s second of the season at Devils Lake.

Next Saturday night at Devils Lake Speedway, the track will host a $2,000-to-win WISSOTA Midwest Modified event. The best Midwest Modified drivers in the upper Midwest will migrate to the high-banked quarter-mile clay oval to battle for the big money. The WISSOTA Street Stocks, Pure Stocks and Circle Track Mini Trucks will also be in action. Green flag drops at 7pm.
