Veralrud goes back-to-back at BRRP, Dvergsten gets second win at Greenbush

(July 3, 2018) – The Northern Lightning Sprint Association was back at its two home tracks over the weekend with dates at Greenbush Race Park on Saturday, June 30 and Buffalo River Race Park on Sunday, July 1.
Dexter Dvergsten claimed the win Saturday night at Greenbush. On the initial start, Dvergsten and Alan Truscinski battled for the top spot, with the advantage going to Truscinski. However, a caution prompted a complete restart. As the race resumed, Dvergsten held on to the lead as he cruised to his second win of the season.
Eric Johnson finished in the runner-up position as Alex Truscinski rounded out the podium. Alan Truscinski and Kelsi Pederson finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Seventy-seven year-old Lawrence Veralrud of Olso, Minn. claimed his second consecutive NLSA lightning sprint win at Buffalo River Race Park on Sunday. Veralrud started on the outside of the front row of the 15-lap main event and raced side by side with fellow front row starter, Zak Kwiatkoski into turn one.
Veralrud and Kwiatkoski went wing to wing for two consecutive laps until Veralrud prevailed on lap three to take the point. Kwiatkoski remained within striking distance for the next couple of circuits, but Veralrud eventually pulled away from Kwiatkoski and the rest of the field.
A caution-free race allowed Veralrud to enjoy his comfortable lead out front as he went on to back up his win last Sunday.
NLSA point leader, Zak Kwiatkoski finished second as Josh Abrahamson, Eric Johnson and Jason Berg rounded out the top five.
This coming weekend, the NLSA will be back at Greenbush on Saturday, July 7th and Buffalo River Race Park Sunday, July 8th.
