Austin Pierce’s Runner-up at Devils Lake Highlights NOSA Doubleheader

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (August 29, 2018) – After some bad luck on Friday at River Cities Speedway, Austin Pierce scored a podium finish with the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints on Saturday at Devils Lake Speedway.

The podium finish marked his 15th top five finish of the season and 19th top 10.

Pierce started Saturday’s 25-lap feature at Devils Lake in third. The driver of the Opp Construction / Lithia Ford No. 2A quickly moved forward to challenge Shane Roemeling for the lead in the opening laps.

Pierce settled into the second spot until a caution was displayed on lap five. A series of cautions throughout the race plagued the event. Pierce fell back to as low as fourth at the midway point of the race but rallied back in the closing laps.

Pierce got by Roemeling for third before passing Jade Hastings with five laps to go for second.

The two-time and defending NOSA champion went on to record a runner-up finish behind Wade Nygaard.

On Friday, Pierce had a strong run going in the first half of the feature at River Cities.

“We led the first few laps. We had a pretty good lead going until the caution came out on lap four,” said Pierce. “We got a little behind on the restart and dropped a few spots. We were running around fourth when we got to battling Chris Ranten. I just got too high in turns three and four and got into the wall.”

Unfortunately, the contact with the outside retaining wall caused enough damage to bring Pierce’s night to an end on lap 19.

“I’m just happy we’ve got our motor running well again. The car has felt better than it has in the last two months. I think we can compete for the win in the weeks to come,” said Pierce.

The Austin Pierce Racing team will be back at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks this Friday night with the NOSA Sprints. Green flag drops at 7pm.
