MANDAN, N.D. (August 1, 2018) – For just the second and third time in series history, the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints made appearances at Dacotah Speedway in Mandan. The two-night N.D. Governor’s Cup brought a season-high 30 NOSA / Canadian-American Outlaw Sprints to the high-banked three-eighths mile oval.
Mark Dobmeier claimed the opening night win on Friday, July 27 from the 12th starting position for his 10th win of 2018. Dobmeier, who had never seen Dacotah Speedway before Friday, took the lead from nine-time NOSA champion and current series point leader, Wade Nygaard, on lap eight and never looked back.

Dobmeier opened up a healthy lead at the midpoint of the race, but Nygaard began reeling in the Buffalo Wild Wings No. 13 in lapped traffic as the race reached the waning laps. Dobmeier was able to hold off Nygaard by three-quarters of a second at the checkers, as Greg Nikitenko, Jade Hastings and Nick Omdahl rounded out the top five.

“I got a good jump and got around a lot of cars in the first corner,” said Dobmeier after the race. “I got up to fourth or fifth and slowly worked my way forward one car at a time. I got to Wade and had to wait for some lapped cars to slow him down a bit and snuck around him on the top.”

Blake Egeland was the hard charger of the feature, advancing 13 positions from 21st to eighth.

On Saturday, 26 NOSA / CAOSS Sprints were checked in for night two of the N.D. Governor’s Cup. Bob Martin and Zach Wilde led the field to the green flag for the 25-lap feature. Martin and Wilde traded the lead in the opening laps before Martin took command of the point on lap four.

The race was halted on lap two when the red was displayed for Brendan Mullen, who had flames coming out of the car as the engine appeared to be expiring on the Auto Finance Super Center No. 11M. As the red lights blinked on, Mark Dobmeier jumped the right rear of Jordan Adams, which sent Dobmeier pirouetting off the track in turn one. Dobmeier’s machine landed hard on top of the roll cage, before enduring a series of end-over-end flips. Dobmeier came to rest against the outside retaining fence as he climbed from his mangled car uninjured.

On the restart, Wilde and Jade Hastings traded the runner-up spot behind Martin, but Wade Nygaard got by both of them on lap eight. Nygaard then set his sights on Martin for the lead.

Martin, who was in search of his first NOSA win since July 21, 2009, showed the way until lap 12, when Nygaard snuck around him for the lead.

Nygaard led the remainder of the race to collect his fifth win of the season.

“I hope we can keep this ball rolling and keep making good decisions every night,” said Nygaard after expressing his concern for Dobmeier and thankfulness that he was okay after the wreck.

Tenth row starter, Tom Egeland, picked up the hard charger award after cruising from 20th to ninth.

The Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints return to action Friday night at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks. On Saturday, the series will meet with the CAOSS Sprints once again for a co-sanctioned event at Devils Lake Speedway in Crary.
