Grosz carries momentum into 360 Knoxville Nationals

By Spieker Promotions

HARWOOD, N.D. (August 1, 2018) – After taking last weekend off, the Lee Grosz Racing team is ready to make the eight hour haul to Knoxville, Iowa for the biggest race of the year; the 28th annual 360 Knoxville Nationals. Lee comes into the Nationals with two feature wins under his belt in 2018, along with 10 top fives and 15 top 10 finishes in 20 starts.

“This is the best I’ve felt in a few years heading into the Nationals,” said Grosz. “We changed our engine program this offseason to Moyle Racing Engines. We put a new motor in last weekend for Jackson and Knoxville and we were real pleased with the way it ran at both tracks. Even though the car didn’t feel that great, we still clicked off pretty good lap times. I think if we get the car a little bit better and have a good time in qualifying, I think we can put on a pretty good showing at the Nationals.”

A driver’s entire weekend can live or die by the two laps he lays down during time trials on his preliminary night. Grosz and the crew have been focusing on qualifying, hoping to better set themselves up for the Nationals.

“We’ve been trying different things,” said Grosz. “I think you just need to get the car as close to perfect as you can for time trials. Then, just keep it as straight as possible for those two laps. We timed in 10th last week at Knoxville after going out fairly late so I think if we can get it just a little bit better, I think we can lay a pretty good lap time down.

“The main goal is to get locked into the A-main on Saturday, but the first goal is to draw a good time; time in well, then hopefully I can do my job from there. Hopefully we can get a top five in the feature on our prelim night and be sitting good for Saturday.”

Grosz has enjoyed some success during his preliminary nights at Knoxville in the past. In 2011, the Harwood, N.D. driver won his preliminary night A-main, marking his first career win at Knoxville. Since then, Lee has added two prelim night top five finishes in 2013 and 2014, where he finished fifth each time. His best finish on Saturday night at the 360 Nationals came in 2014, where he raced to a 17th place finish.

Grosz will qualify for the 360 Knoxville Nationals on Thursday, August 2nd. Watch live on thecushion.com.
