Nygaard Looks to Regain River Cities Point Lead This Friday

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (August 22, 2018) – The River Cities Speedway points race is heating up with just four Sprint Car races remaining on the schedule. Right in the thick of things is 10-time River Cities Speedway track champion, Wade Nygaard.

Nygaard currently sits second in the River Cities Speedway standings, just one point behind leader Austin Pierce. In 12 races thus race at River Cities, Nygaard has tallied three wins, seven top fives and eight top tens.

Friday’s race will mark the first Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA points-paying event since August 4th.

In Wade’s last NOSA event at River Cities on August 11th, which was a non-points paying race, he scored his sixth win of the season. He enters the weekend with an 80 point lead over Nick Omdahl atop the NOSA series standings.

Last weekend, the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series made their final appearances of the year in North Dakota. Unfortunately, Wade’s feature Friday night at River Cities came to an end two laps in after he got upside down.

“I honestly don’t know what happened,” said Nygaard. “We got together with somebody and ended up on our lid. We were done at that point. I got out of the car, thought it was just wing damage, but once we got back to the trailer we saw the wing mounts were folded over and the wing cylinder was crashed off. It would have taken too long to get that changed so we were done for the night.”

On Saturday at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, Nygaard transferred into the A-main following a second-place run in the Last Chance Showdown.

“I think we would have been alright if we didn’t get lapped. I think we were up to about 10th… we got up to [Sheldon] Haudenschild and he was running around 10th. Then the yellow came out and since we were a lap down, I had to go back behind all of those guys again,” said Nygaard.
