Austin Pierce Scores Win & Track Championship in River Cities Speedway Season Finale!

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (September 20, 2018) – It may have taken until the final race of the year, but Austin Pierce and the Opp Construction / Lithia Ford team finally scored that elusive River Cities Speedway win Friday night at the Bullring. By night’s end, Pierce was also named the River Cities Speedway track co-champion.

“It was a pretty special win for us,” said Pierce after the race. “With my grandpa passing away, I wanted nothing more than to win tonight. To pull a win off on the last race of the year was great. I was getting nervous we weren’t going to get a win here this year, which would have been disappointing. We’re pretty happy. I can’t thank my guys enough.”

Pierce’s feature win came in what was the first of two main events for the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints. The race was a make-up feature from the August 31st event that was postponed due to rain. Pierce inherited the lead on lap five before checking out from the rest of the field midway through the race. Jade Hastings put pressure on Pierce on the final lap, briefly pulling alongside the Ostrich powered Schnee No. 2A in turn one, but Pierce held on to take the win.

In the regularly scheduled feature, Pierce started fifth on the grid and came away with the final podium position at the checkers. That was good enough to tie Wade Nygaard for the River Cities Speedway 410 Sprint Car points championship. On Monday, the track declared both Pierce and Nygaard co-champions. The championship marks Pierce’s second consecutive and fourth in the last five years.

In 25 events this year, Pierce compiled an impressive three wins, 18 top fives, and 22 top 10s. Of those results, 11 top fives and 13 top 10s came at River Cities Speedway alone. His other two wins of the season came at Greenbush Race Park on July 7th and Devils Lake Speedway on July 14th. The Devils Lake win was the first of his career at that track.

Austin would like to thank all the guys on his crew, his wife, Amanda, and his great sponsors for their continued support!
