Carter Claims Wells Concrete Street Stock Win in Rain-Shortened Night at River Cities

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (August 31, 2018) – Friday was the annual WISSOTA AFCO Race of Champions qualifier at River Cities Speedway. However, just one feature event was completed as lightning and heavy rain forced the postponement of the rest of the evening.

In his first visit to River Cities Speedway this season, Jonny Carter of Lisbon, N.D. took the Wells Concrete Street Stock win.

Carter quickly charged from sixth to fourth on the opening lap as sophomore Street Stock driver, Tucker Pederson, led the field. Carter moved by Greg Jose on lap two before Jose and James Meagher made contact in turn four, which brought out the caution.

Carter charged by Pederson and John Halvorson on the restart to take the point. Halvorson passed Pederson for second on lap six, while track championship contenders, Daniel Aberle and Adam Burrows battled for fourth.

In the closing stages of the race, the battle for the lead heated up in lapped traffic. With two to go, Halvorson had caught Carter and pulled alongside of him down the backstretch. The lead duo gently rubbed exiting turn four coming to the white flag, but the caution was display for a spin. On the restart, Pederson’s machine slowed in turn two to bring out the final caution of the event.

On the ensuing restart, Halvorson remained within striking distance of Carter, but never mounted a serious challenge. Carter took the win over Halvorson, Adam Burrows, Daniel Aberle, and 14th place starter Bradon Miller.

Entering the night, Adam Burrows and Daniel Aberle were separated by just one point in the Street Stock point standings. Burrows had to beat Aberle to secure the title and that’s exactly what he did with his third place finish.

Make-up dates for the Midwest Mods, Late Models and Sprint Cars will be announced at a later date.
