Joey Pederson Prepares for Run at John Seitz Memorial Title at River Cities

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (September 5, 2018) – The region’s biggest Wissota Late Model event, the John Seitz Memorial, is set to kick off Thursday night at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks. Around 50 of the best Late Model drivers in the upper Midwest will flock to the three-tenths mile bullring for three nights of action and the chance at $9,200.
Joey Pederson has had several good runs at the Seitz Memorial, dating back to a top five finish in the inaugural running of the event. Pederson has qualified for the 92-lap A-main nine of the 11 previous years and is just one of seven drivers who has competed in all 11 Seitz Memorial events. The East Grand Forks driver has an average finish of 12.3 in the nine A-main events in which he has competed.

Pederson’s most memorable Seitz came in 2015 when he grabbed the third and final transfer spot in the B-main to start 23rd in the main event. Pederson methodically moved his way through the field and became a contender for the win late in the going. The then-defending River Cities Speedway track champion, Pederson, made his way to second before challenging AJ Diemel for the win in the final laps. Pederson came up a half car length short at the line, but his run is still one of the most impressive ones seen in Seitz history.

Coming into the weekend, Pederson has a streak of eight consecutive top fives at River Cities. Thursday’s Prelude to the Johnny will serve as the NLRA season championship and will have a Late Model make-up feature from last Friday’s rain out.

Along with Joey, Tucker Pederson will also be racing all three nights of the Seitz in his Wissota Street Stock. The Street Stocks will have a complete show on Thursday, heat races on Friday and features on Saturday.

Kelsi Pederson will have the weekend off before next Friday’s NLSA season championship at River Cities. Kelsi has a nine point lead atop the NLSA standings heading into the final race. She picked up a second and third place finish at Greenbush Race Park’s Labor Day doubleheader last weekend. Tucker also raced both nights at Greenbush. He placed fifth on Saturday and sixth on Sunday with the Street Stocks.
