Lee Grosz Claims Podium at Jackson Nationals

HARWOOD, N.D. (September 5, 2018) – Lee Grosz captured a podium finish at Jackson Motorplex’s 360 Jackson Nationals over the Labor Day weekend. The three-day event began with two preliminary nights on Friday and Saturday, leading up to championship night on Sunday.
Grosz finished seventh and second in the two preliminary features, respectively. Coupled with solid qualifying efforts, Grosz was in the top four in points at the end of Saturday, which locked him into the dash on Sunday.

Grosz started and finished third in the dash, but learned a lot about his car and the track during those six laps.

“We tried a different gear and a few different things in the dash, but we ended up switching back to the gear we had in it,” said Grosz. “We just wanted to make minor adjustments for the feature. We were a little tight in the dash so we figured we would be okay once the track slicked off.”

Grosz battled for third and fourth for the first half of the race until he was able to reel in and pass Terry McCarl for second. Unfortunately, the yellow came out right after Grosz made the pass, putting him back to third, but he was able to get back by the No. 24 machine to reclaim the runner-up spot.

“I was closing in on [Jack] Dover for the lead in lapped traffic and I thought I was going to have a shot at him, but the red flag came out. I went to slide myself on the restart to protect myself from McCarl. Then Thomas [Kennedy] went around the outside of McCarl and then slid me. There was another yellow after that and on the restart, we just got in line. We ended up finishing third, which is pretty good considering the competition that was there,” said Grosz.

Looking ahead, Grosz will head to Wagner Speedway in Wagner, South Dakota with the MSTS 360s. Grosz holds a 94 point lead over Dover heading into Saturday’s event.

“Hopefully we can keep our consistent runs going. As long as we keep running in the top three, the wins will start coming. We have about four races left this year so I’m hoping we can pick off a few more wins to end the year on a high note and carry some momentum into next year,” concluded Grosz.
