Nygaard Collects 10th NOSA & River Cities Speedway Championship!

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (September 19, 2018) – Wade Nygaard added a pair of accolades to his already storied career on Friday night at River Cities Speedway. The Grand Forks, N.D. driver claimed his 10th career NOSA Sprint Car series championship, as well as his 10th River Cities Speedway track championship.

While Nygaard had a fairly comfortable lead in the NOSA standings, the River Cities championship wasn’t decided until the final lap of the feature on Friday. Coming into the season finale feature at the Bullring, Nygaard had a one-point lead over Austin Pierce. Pierce finished one spot better than Nygaard, which meant the two drivers tied. The River Cities Speedway rule does not go to a tiebreaker, so both drivers were determined co-champions.

Nygaard started sixth in the second of two feature events on Friday at River Cities.

“At the get-go, everybody got bottled up and I ran into the back of another car. That pushed the front wing forward, but it didn’t really hinder me too much. Towards the end of the race, the car got a little dicey, but it wasn’t really that bad of a deal. The restarts helped us a couple times, but that last one really hurt us. We had a car come up in front of us so I had to slam on the brakes and that allowed Austin to get by us.”

The night began with the August 31st make-up feature, where Nygaard came home in the fifth position.

“We were really worried about what to do with the car for the first feature. We had a lot of rain on Thursday and we didn’t know if the moisture was going to stay or blow off. We played it safe and made it as free as we could possibly get it. We weren’t decent, but we weren’t great. We held on and did what we could do.”

Nygaard ended 2018 with 3 wins, 10 top fives and 12 top tens in 15 points-paying events at River Cities Speedway.

Wade and the entire crew would like to thank their great sponsors for their continued support!
