Lee Grosz Excited for Doubleheader Weekend Following Strong Knoxville Opener

HARWOOD, N.D. (April 30, 2019) – There’s no doubt Lee Grosz knows how to get around the famed Marion County Fairgrounds half-mile, known as Knoxville Raceway. The Harwood, North Dakota driver has had several strong runs there, highlighted by his Knoxville 360 Nationals prelim win.

However in recent years, Grosz has struggled at the “Sprint Car Capital of the World” for several reasons – most out of his control. On Saturday, April 20th, Grosz made the 500-mile trip to Knoxville for the track’s season opener and he came home with a podium finish against a stout field of 360c.i. Sprint Cars.

Grosz timed in eighth quick out of 35 cars, which put him in the fifth starting position for his heat. The driver of the Jimco Enterprises No. 4J charged up to finish second, putting him on the outside of row two for the main event.

“We had the car working really well in the feature. It took me a few laps to find my place on the track, but once I found my groove on the bottom we started picking up speed,” said Grosz. “I got into third and reeled in Jon Agan towards the end of the race, but wasn’t able to get by him.

At the checkers, Grosz rounded out the podium with a third-place finish.

“It was a solid run for us,” he said. “I haven’t ran well at Knoxville for probably five or six years so it was definitely a big confidence booster. I feel like we have some good notes for the next time we go back there and hopefully we can improve a couple more positions.”

Grosz was scheduled to compete at Park Jefferson Speedway in North Sioux City, S.D. for the $10,000-to-win South Dakota Sprint Car Nationals this past weekend. However, cool and damp conditions forced the cancelation of the event.

The Lee Grosz Racing team will return to action on Friday, May 3rd at I-80 Speedway with the MSTS & Nebraska 360 Sprints. Grosz tallied a top 10 finish in his most recent visit to the high-banked four-tenths mile oval on April 6th. On Saturday, May 4th, Grosz will head back to Knoxville Raceway in hopes of building upon his strong outing on April 20th.

Lee and the entire team would like to thank all of their sponsors for their continued support!
