Wade Nygaard captures runner-up finish in NOSA / River Cities 2019 opener
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (May 22, 2019) – After picking up a win in his last outing at Cedar Lake Speedway, Wade Nygaard and the Auto Finance Super Center team looked to continue their momentum last Friday as the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints and River Cities Speedway kicked off their 2019 season.
Nygaard rolled off sixth for the 25-lap main event, but things got off to a wild start at the drop of the green flag. Nygaard was caught up in a five-car incident on the opening lap that was a result of the leaders getting together in the first turn. The 9N crew did a great job in the work area to get Nygaard back on the track for the ensuing restart.
Cautions plagued the event, but on each restart, Nygaard was able to move his way forward.
Nygaard took the lead from Mark Dobmeier on a lap 12 restart.
“Mark chose the bottom groove where he thought there was more rubber and gave me the top side where the rubber actually was,” said Nygaard. “I got the lead and I thought I had it in the bag. I dropped down a little bit lower because that’s where the rubber had been coming in, but then Mark showed me I didn’t go low enough.”
Dobmeier moved around Nygaard on lap 16 to take the lead, but Nygaard went on to take the checkers in second.
Nygaard will head back to River Cities Speedway this Friday night before following the NOSA Sprints to Buffalo River Race Park in Glyndon, Minn. on Sunday.
“Buffalo River is a fun place to race. It’s so little and seems to get pretty racy,” said Nygaard. “It races completely different from River Cities and the setup is completely different, but it’s a fun little track.”
Nygaard has three career NOSA wins at Buffalo River. One win came in 2015 and two in 2016. He finished fourth in last year’s feature.
