Austin Pierce Races to Season-Best Runner-up at River Cities
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (June 19, 2019) – Last weekend the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints had just one event on the schedule at River Cities Speedway. Austin Pierce and the Opp Construction / Lithia Ford team had their best outing of the season, racing to a runner-up finish in the main event.
Pierce started seventh on the grid for the 25-lapper around the high-banked three-tenths mile bullring. In what was a caution-plagued race, Pierce moved his way forward to contend for the win in the final laps.
Pierce moved to within one car length of leader Jade Hastings, but his run was stalled out in lapped traffic.
“I got caught in lapped traffic and kind of had to back off a little and Jade kicked it into another gear I think,” said Pierce.
Still, it was a solid night for Pierce, who sits in the fifth position, 26 points out of the lead in the River Cities Speedway standings.
With just four races completed so far this season, the NOSA Sprints hope to double that total this weekend with their four-race Minn-Dak Summer Swing. The action starts Thursday night at Norman County Raceway in Ada, Minn., where Pierce has one career victory, before heading back to River Cities Speedway on Friday night. On Saturday, the tour heads south to Brown County Speedway in Aberdeen. In NOSA’s inaugural event last year at the high-banked three-eighths mile oval, Pierce nearly stole the win from Mark Dobmeier on the final lap.
The weekend wraps up Sunday at Casino Speedway in Watertown, S.D.
“I’m most looking forward to getting back to Aberdeen,” said Pierce. “We were all over Dobmeier there on the last lap so hopefully we can go back and get one spot better.”
