THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. (October 24, 2019) – Dalton Fredrickson is switching gears for the 2019-2020 season. The seventh-year sled racer will be turning his focus to ice oval racing this season, instead of cross country.

“I really enjoy everything about sprint racing. It provides closer racing and I personally prefer the format a little more,” said Fredrickson.

Fredrickson turned his first laps at an ice oval event last season and feels as though he picked up on it fairly quickly.

“What I found out last year is that I like the rough,” he said. “From racing cross country and going into ice oval, I can get through the bumps really well. I’m used to going over big bumps in cross country so the smaller ones in ice oval don’t bother me much. The transition was a lot smoother than I was anticipating last year. Hopefully, we can continue to build upon that this year.”

Fredrickson isn’t giving up cross country racing completely. He has one event scheduled at Pine Lake, Minn. on Dec. 14-15, where the winner will take home $10,000, and has hopes of adding another event or two as the season gets closer.

Fredrickson has also landed a ride with the Bouchard Racing Team for the 2020 Soo-I 500 at Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.

“I am so excited to be teaming up with both the Bouchard Racing Team and Thunder Racing Products,” said Fredrickson. “They had the fastest sled at the Soo-I 500 last year and they have the best equipment out there. I’m very excited and thankful for this opportunity.”

With the help of Chad Lian throughout his career, Fredrickson has been able to get opportunities like racing for the Bouchard Racing Team.

“When I was younger and just getting started in racing, Chad was always there to help me out,” Fredrickson explained. “He would give me pointers on how to make me faster and smoother on the track. He was just that savvy veteran who saw a junior driver who didn’t have any knowledge or experience in the sport. He was more than willing to help me out. I owe all of my success in my racing career to Chad.”

Fredrickson has set his goals high for this season, gunning for series championships with the United States Snowmobile Association (USSA) Pro Star series, Canadian Power Toboggan Championships (CPTC) and Central Minnesota Pond Racing (CMPR) series. Fredrickson will be racing his Arctic Cat F-500 in those events.

“I’d like to recognize some special individuals who have made this new oval program possible,” continued Fredrickson. “Keith, Dana and Kally Wojo, Ben Reese, Mike Peterson, Scott Johnson, Dave, Brandon and Mary over at Wahl Brothers Racing. Thank you SO much for everything.”

Fredrickson’s season kicks off with the CPTC in Beausejour, Manitoba on Dec. 7-8.
