KANSAS CITY, Kan. (October 18, 2019) – Donny Schatz’s quest at claiming his 11th career World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series championship took a step in the right direction on Friday night at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan. The defending series champion picked up his 10th feature win of the season in convincing fashion, driving his way forward from the fifth starting position.

“We hit double digits [in the win column] tonight, so that’s big,” said an elated Schatz in victory lane. “This is the third race with the Ford [FPS 410 engine] so it’s big to get to victory lane that quick. Rick [Warner] has done an awesome job with the motor program. It’s got two thirds and a win tonight so it has a lot of promise to it. This Toco Warranty team is incredible at what they do. We have to make adjustments for the extra power and the extra weight, but they do an awesome job at it.”

The win was the first for a Ford-powered Sprint Car with the World of Outlaws since August 26, 1998 when Jeff Swindell took his 104+ Octane Boost machine to victory lane at Southern Oregon Speedway in Medford, Ore.

The 30-lap main event was plagued by incidents in the early stages, prompting an open red before the halfway point so teams could refuel. At the fuel stop on lap 12, Schatz had moved his way up to the second position.

On the restart, Schatz followed leader Brian Brown before diving to the inside of him in turns three and four and taking the point to lead lap 13.

Once out front, Schatz quickly checked out from the rest of the pack. Heavy lapped traffic in the final laps allowed Logan Schuchart to close in on the Toco Warranty / Ford Performance No. 15. With two to go, the final caution was displayed, setting up a single-file, green-white-checkered restart.

Schatz powered away from Schuchart and Brad Sweet at the drop of the green flag and went on to secure his second career Lakeside Speedway win.

Schatz narrowed what was a 30 point gap between himself and point leader Sweet to 24 points heading into Saturday’s event at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo.

Schatz and the entire Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team would like to thank Toco WarrantyFord PerformanceCurb RecordsSage Fruit, Absolute Automation & Security and J&J Auto Racing for their continued support.
