FARGO, N.D. (October 17, 2019) – The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series makes its final appearance in the Midwest this weekend with stops at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan. on Friday and Lake Ozark Speedway for the Jason Johnson Classic in Eldon, Mo. on Saturday.

With six events remaining on the World of Outlaws schedule this season, Donny Schatz finds himself with a 30 point deficit between himself and point leader, Brad Sweet.

Schatz has one win at Lakeside Speedway in his 12 previous appearances, along with three top-fives and 10 top 10s. His lone win came on July 1, 2015, after he started back in the 10th position. The 10-time and defending series champion has an average finish of 6.0 in his last 10 trips to the semi-banked half-mile oval.

There have been four different feature winners in the series’ first four visits to Lake Ozark Speedway. Schatz is one of those winners – claiming the win on May 4 of last season after starting third and leading 34 of 40 laps.

Fellow championship contender, Sweet, won at Lake Ozark when the Outlaws made their first appearance of the season to the speedway on April 26th. Similar to Lakeside, Schatz has an average finish of 6.0 at Lake Ozark over the course of four races.

Last weekend’s doubleheader was shortened to a single show after Saturday night’s event at Terre Haute Speedway was canceled due to cool, saturated conditions. That left only Sunday’s event at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind.

Schatz got off to a great start to begin the night. The driver of the Toco Warranty / Ford Performance No. 15 was second fastest in time trials and won his heat. Following a fifth-place run in the dash, Schatz lined up inside of row three for the 40-lap feature. Schatz was involved in an incident on lap one, which sent him into the work area as a result. The Tony Stewart Racing crew made the necessary repairs and got Schatz back out to rejoin the field.

Coming from the back of the pack, Schatz worked his way back up to the 12th position. On lap 12, Schatz was involved in a second incident when a car spun in front of him, leaving him no place to go.

Having to come from the tail of the field again, Schatz battled his way forward to salvage a 13th place position.

“Our 13th place finish is a testament to these Tony Stewart Racing guys. They battled all night and never gave up,” said Schatz. “We had a fast car. We tried something in the dash that didn’t quite work, but I felt confident going into the feature. It’s a shame we were involved in two incidents, but that’s racing and you’ll have that from time to time. I’m proud of the way our team rebounded and I’m excited to get behind the wheel of this Toco Warranty car this weekend.”

Schatz and the entire Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team would like to thank Toco WarrantyFord PerformanceCurb RecordsSage Fruit, Absolute Automation & Security and J&J Auto Racing for their continued support.
