GRAND FORKS, N.D. (May 15, 2020) – Seventeen-year-old Brendan Mullen will be kicking off his first full weekend of racing this weekend at Jackson Motorplex for the Great Lakes Shootout. Mullen will have a 410 cubic inch powerplant between the rails of his Maxim Chassis for the first time at the Jackson, Minn. four-tenths mile oval, both tonight, May 15th and Saturday, May 16th.
“I’m most looking forward to getting some laps turned. Park Jefferson a couple of weeks ago was big for us, just getting that first race of the season out of the way. It’ll be some pretty stout competition this weekend – the guys that are entered are the best – but we’ll just try to do our best and turn some good laps,” said Mullen, who is entering his third full season behind the wheel of the CL Linfoot / Simplot No. 11M. “Hopefully we can qualify for the main. That’s our goal going in, but we’ll see.”
Over 70 of the best 410 Sprint Car drivers from across the country are pre-registered for this weekend’s private event. The Great Lake Shootout will be Mullen’s second visit to Jackson Motorplex. His first came in 360 action last July where he scored a seventh-place finish in the B-main.
“The speed at Jackson is definitely unlike any other track that we race at regularly,” said Mullen. “The track is different because the bottom is so crucial. One of my goals this weekend is to learn as much as I can about running the brakes around the bottom of a bigger race track. It’s all about keeping up your speed and momentum so I’m really looking forward to that.”
Mullen’s first night of competition in 2020 came on April 25 at Park Jefferson Speedway against another loaded field. Mullen turned heads during his heat race, holding off eventual feature winner Brock Zearfoss for the heat race win. Unfortunately, a flat tire in the feature left Mullen with a 22nd place finish.
Fans can catch this weekend’s action live on Speed Shift TV.
Brendan and the entire Mullen Motorsports team would like to thank all their sponsors for their support!
