HARWOOD, N.D. (May 28, 2020) – Over a month later than usual, the 2020 season finally got underway for Lee Grosz last weekend at Park Jefferson Speedway in North Sioux City, S.D.
Grosz competed on Saturday night and was scheduled to race on Monday at Park Jefferson as well. However, Mother Nature washed out Monday’s event. “It felt good to get back in the car again,” said Grosz, who started fourth and finished third in his heat race. “We were good, but not great, so we tried a few things for the feature. We started fourth again and the rubber came in and made it single file. We were running fifth at that point and just held our ground. All in all, it wasn’t a bad first night. With 44 cars there total, I will take a top five to start the year.”
Grosz crossed the line in fifth at the completion of 18 laps.
This weekend, Grosz’s tentative plans are to head to I-90 Speedway in Hartford, S.D. on Saturday with the MSTS 360s.
“I feel like I-90 kind of fits my driving style. It’s more of a momentum deal and that suits me pretty well,” he said. “It’s usually on the drier side and it’s a bigger three-eighths mile with some pretty good bank in the corner, which allows you to carry quite a bit of corner speed.”
In Grosz’s last visit to the speedway in 2015, he picked up the win against the MSTS 360s. That event was Grosz’s second win with the series in what was their third-ever event during their inaugural season.
Looking ahead to the rest of the year, Grosz said he doesn’t have a set schedule.
“We’re just going to try to race as much as we can. A lot will depend on the weather – wherever the forecast looks best, that’s probably where we will be heading unless there is a really good paying show somewhere,” he said. “Basically, we will just be taking things week to week and see who is racing when.”
Lee and the entire team would like to thank all their sponsors for their continued support!
