Pierce races to three-in-a-row at River Cities!
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (June 23, 2020) – For the first time in his career, Austin Pierce has won three consecutive Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprint Car events – all of which have come at his home track, River Cities Speedway.
“This is awesome, I can’t believe it,” said an excited Pierce in victory lane on Friday. “I’ve never won three races in a row before, let alone start the season off like that. There’s no better feeling than starting a season perfect.”
Pierce had to work for it, right up to the checkered flag.
After withstanding several restarts with 10-time NOSA champion Wade Nygaard and defending series champion Nick Omdahl in tow, Pierce had to contend with NOSA’s all-time wins leader, Mark Dobmeier, in the closing stages.
Dobmeier moved past Nygaard on the final restart with five to go and looked to reel in Pierce.
On the final lap, Dobmeier attempted to throw a slide job in turns three and four.
Pierce’s momentum on the top side of the speedway carried him back around Dobmeier and across the finish line first.
“I saw Nygaard a couple of times and I knew Dobmeier spun early so I figured he was still back a ways. It surprised me a bit to see him there at the end,” said Pierce.
The win was Pierce’s 30th of his career, which now puts him just two behind Casey Mack for fourth on the all-time NOSA wins list.
