Pierce Scores Two Top Fives At Governor’s Cup

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (August 5, 2020) – Coming off his fifth win of the 2020 campaign at River Cities the week prior, Austin Pierce took the Opp Construction / Lithia Ford No. 2A west to Dacotah Speedway in Mandan, N.D. for the annual running of the Governor’s Cup with the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints.

Austin started the weekend with a win from the front row of his heat race, setting up a sixth-place start in the main event.

Pierce was running fifth on lap five when he chased down Jordan Adams to move to fourth. At the halfway point, Pierce made another pass on Zach Omdahl to move to third, where he finished the race.

Night two started as night one did with another heat win from the front row, setting up a third-place start for the final feature of the weekend.

Pierce slipped back to seventh at the start, and remained there for the first 10 circuits, before the first caution with 15 to go.

The restart was a good one for Pierce as he made three passes to move back to fourth. He continued in fourth before and after the final caution with eight laps remaining, until the final lap, when veteran Greg Nikitenko beat Pierce back to the line, leaving Pierce with a fifth-place run.

This week, Pierce will return to a normal schedule, as he’ll look for win number six at the River Cities Speedway. Time trials are at 6:30pm with racing at 7:00pm.
